I cannot stress enough how important safety in general is especially on the roof. I stress the importance of safety to my guys until I’m blue in the face. From time to time Arizona roofer posts do-it-yourself articles on how to do basic roof repairs. Here are a few guidelines to help keep you safe these are only guidelines, and should be used inconjunction with common sense. Staying safe is your job and your responsibility!

1. Always let someone know where you are.

2. Drink plenty of water prior to getting on the roof, and be sure you have plenty of water on the roof. This is especially important in the summer time no matter the time of day.

3. Bring your cell phone or some other kind of device to contact someone should you need help.

4. Put your tools in a 5 gallon bucket and pull them up with a rope.

5. Make sure your ladder is set up correctly per instructions on the ladder. Make sure you have at least 3 rungs are above the roof. Always tie the ladder off to something secure on the roof this will prevent the ladder from blowing or falling down.

6. When climbing the ladder you should have at least 3 points of contact at all time on the ladder, don’t try to carry your tools up the ladder use a rope.

7. If you should start to feel dizzy or faint you should call someone sit down in a cool spot and get a drink of water. DO NOT TRY TO CLIMB DOWN THE LADDER.
