Polyester Fabric Roof Systems: Are They a Viable Option?

Is a polyester fabric roof system a viable option? In most cases, it is not considered a standard roofing solution by today’s standards.

These systems typically consist of a base surface—often plywood—with polyester fabric embedded into an elastomeric coating. While this approach may have been used more frequently in the past, it does not meet the performance expectations of modern roofing systems, especially when more durable and reliable alternatives are readily available.

Polyester fabric and coating systems can still serve a purpose in certain situations. They are commonly used for temporary repairs or to extend the life of an existing roof when applied correctly. However, they should not be relied upon as a primary roofing system.
